Featuring one of the predominant instruments of ancient China—the incredible erhu—our Celestial Melody collection brings out your soulful notes.

As the central focus of our rosy silk scarf, the erhu has a history of over 4,000 years and is commonly referred to as the “Chinese violin.” With the absence of a fingerboard, freedom is given for a range of vibratos and slides, which allows it to express various sounds and emotions with ease.

Also found on the scarf is the five-note (pentatonic) scale in Chinese music—宮(gong), 商(shāng), 角(jué), 徵(zhǐ), 羽(yǔ)—which also plays a role in Chinese medicine for its healing power.

The ancient Chinese believed that “The Five Elements”—water, earth, wood, fire, and metal—make up all things in our universe. Thus, nearly all aspects of traditional Chinese culture follow the powerful “Theory of Five” in keeping us in harmony with the universe.

Each of the five musical notes—宮商角徵羽—corresponds to one of our five major internal organs, regulating it to keep a harmonious balance, which is also how the treatment known as “the healing power of music” came about in Chinese medicine.

Encircling the erhu on our scarf are eight instruments symbolizing the different categories for Chinese musical instruments—stone, leather, bamboo, silk (stringed), metal, wood, gourd, and clay.

In creating harmonious melodies together, traditional Chinese instruments allow us to align with the goodness of the universe through music, strengthening our body and soul.
